I came into the industry with Erie Insurance, where I worked as an insurance adjuster and eventually a district sales manager. I became an independent insurance agent in 1981 with Lawyer Insurance Agency and sat on the Board of Directors for PIA of PA, MD, and DE, as well as the Board of Governors CISR. My agency merged with Reinhardt’s Insurance Agency in 2007, and I retired in 2017.

Since 1974, the majority of my industry experience has been in the Independent Agency System having been an Account Executive with the John Henry Dukes Agency in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Heffron Ingle McDowell & Cooper in Charleston, South Carolina and Riley & Associates in Charleston, South Carolina.
I also served as General Manager of White Insurance Group in Black Mountain, North Carolina. I have spent some time on the carrier side as Marketing Manager of Old Charleston Insurance Company and Branch Manager of Medical Mutual Insurance Company of North Carolina.
Most recently, and currently, as Chief Growth Officer of Correll Insurance Group, a privately-held independent insurance agency with 32 offices throughout South Carolina, North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. In addition to the above items, I also served as Director of Education for the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of South Carolina. I am also a past member of the Board of Directors of the Carolinas Association of Professional Insurance Agents.

My insurance career began in January of 2001 when I took a job as a marketing person for an independent agency in Orlando, Florida. After earning my license that summer, I continued at the agency as a commercial lines producer. I enjoy commercial lines primarily because I believe business owners are superheroes and I like learning what makes them tick. In October of 2004, I joined forces with the Florida Insurance School of Continuing Education aka “FISCE” (which I purchased from my mentor in 2013) to pursue a career in insurance education. In 2010, we founded the CE Partnership for the purpose of establishing a distribution network for FISCE’s best-in-class online CE programs outside Florida.

Early in my insurance career, I discovered that I had a love for training insurance professionals. While I loved selling insurance, I found the education courses to be uninspiring. I followed my calling and founded KM Associates, Insurance Management & Training Consultants (KMA) in 1995. With over 35 years of experience in the insurance industry, I bring my clients a wealth of knowledge in agency and risk management, sales, claims, and customer service. I design, develop, and deliver continuing education and professional training programs on a national level for a variety of clients, including professional organizations, insurance companies, agencies, and brokerage firms. I also serve as a state faculty member for the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers (Big “I”, NJ) and the Agents & Brokers of America. I also provide professional liability and loss control audits.

I have been writing and presenting insurance education programs to the insurance industry for over 45 years. I formed Insurance Education & Training Associates (IETA) of Newport, Rhode Island in 2003, after serving the Independent Insurance Agents of Rhode Island (IIARI) for sixteen years; first as Director of Education and subsequently as Assistant Executive Vice President. This followed a lengthy career in both underwriting and sales with insurance agencies and companies. Even during my agency and company days, I created education courses to present to my peers as a volunteer instructor for IIARI. I am a technical insurance and agency management expert with the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America’s Virtual University. This role, coupled with my extensive background in both the agency and company ranks, and my love of teaching, adds a unique dimension and immediate and practical value to the programs I present to insurance professionals countrywide. I am also the author of Swiss-Re’s E&O program – “E&O Management – Meeting the Challenge of Change”.

I have taught coursework for the National Alliance in their CISR program since 2000, have presented in their CIC program since 2004, and in 2009 became a National Faculty Member of the Society of CIC. In 2021, I obtained my Certified Personal Risk Manager designation and am a presenter in that program. I have been called upon to offer insurance education in conferences and symposiums across the country over the last 20+ years.
