How Does the Certification Program Work?

Do you have a new employee just starting out in insurance and needs licensed? Let IA&B help you in training and preparing them for the licensing exam and more.

Insuring Careers Certification Program (ICCP) is the perfect program for newcomers to the insurance industry. It is for people who want to begin to work in property and casualty insurance in PA, MD, and DE. This program breaks down the complex world of insurance into manageable learning segments. Students will prepare for the licensing exam and build an applicable knowledge base.

It’s online & flexible – Students can work at their own pace.
Students have up to 6 months to complete the program, but it can be completed sooner.
Students have access to an experienced educational team that can answer questions and provide support.

Step 1: Learning the Basics of Insurance

The program first introduces participants to what insurance is, the different types of insurance, the different parties involved in the insurance agreements, and the vocabulary essential to understanding insurance.

Step 2: Preparing for the state licensing exam

Using the new information and vocabulary taught in the first stage of ICCP, students will begin preparing for the state property & casualty licensing exam. The exam prep will help students feel confident and ready to pass the test and become an agent. Anyone who “sells, solicits or negotiates contracts of insurance” needs to become licensed. ICCP includes a licensing exam preparation course in a live classroom and webinar (PA Only) and self-study (PA, MD, and DE).

Step 3: Learn to Apply it to Real Life Scenarios

After passing the state licensing exam, participants will dig deeper into the technical side of insurance by learning the different policies, practicing application in real life scenarios and building the business and communication skills needed to be successful.

ICCP was developed and designed by experts in property & casualty insurance, and instructional designers who know adult learning styles.

Here are the steps and flow of the program.

24/7 access to 25+ online self-paced education modules
Practical, real-life exams demonstrating the concepts
Knowledge checks within each section
Printed and digital licensing preparation manual
State licensing preparation course (live classroom and webinar for PA only; self-study available for PA, MD, & DE)
Mixture of learning formats (video, narration, reading, and activities)

Questions & Answers

What are the enrollment requirements?

There are no specific requirements for enrolling in ICCP; however, the following are requirements for becoming a licensed agent:

18 years or older
You need to pass a background check
Fingerprinting (PA, MD, DE require fingerprinting)

How long does it take to complete the program?

There are over 50 hours of module content. Additionally, there is licensing exam prep. The pace of the program is set by the student. We estimate that the entire program is approximately 100 hours of study time.

How long will the student have access to the modules and resource library?

Upon enrolling in the program, the student will have 6 months’ access to the content and to become licensed. Following successful completion of the certification program, the student will have access to a resource library for one year.

If there are questions about the course, who can help?

We will be scheduling weekly office hours with online instructors to answer questions. IA&B staff are always here to assist you as well.

Can an agency or person get a refund?

Once a person enrolls for the program, there are no refunds.

Are there tests?

There are small quizzes throughout the online modules to gauge confidence. In addition, a student will need to pass the state licensing exam as well as a final test at the end of all the online modules.

Student sponsored by an IA&B Member: $1,500

Student sponsored by a Non-Member Agency: $2,000
