IA&B Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions for Agency Membership

1. Membership Terms

The membership year shall be for 365 days from the date of application or subsequent renewal, and is subject to approval. When your membership application or renewal is submitted, you are making an offer to join IA&B which, if accepted by us, will result in a legally binding contract. A legally binding contract is formed when IA&B accepts your application or renewal.

If you cancel your membership within 14 days of submitting your membership application, we will refund any membership fee that you have paid in the last 14 days. There is no refund allowance, part or in full, after this time.

Any membership payment plan is an installment, not monthly membership payments, and you are obligated to all such payments per the binding contract. If you fail to pay your membership fee, we reserve the right to suspend your membership until payment is received. We additionally reserve the right to apply late fees and/or interest in the collection of your legally obligated dues. If your membership/monthly installment date is on the 29, 30, or 31 of the month, IA&B we will initiate the collection of your monthly dues installment payment by the last day of each month.

2. Resignation and Transferring of Membership

Membership dues are non-refundable. A member may resign by filing a written resignation with the Association, signed by the agency’s Primary Member. Such resignation shall not relieve the member of any dues or charges which have theretofore accrued and remain unpaid. Membership, and any rights and benefits arising therefrom, may be transferrable upon sale or merger of the agency, upon approval of IA&B.

3. Employee Count

Dues are based on the number of full-time employees on record and verified annually. Full-time employees includes staff at the primary or any satellite locations, as well as those who work remotely for the agency. This information is held in strict confidence and will be used only by IA&B to compile the total number of individual personnel employed by our members.

Please use the following definition of “full-time employees.”

“Full-time employees” includes all officers, owners, partners, producers, and other licensed or unlicensed individuals and independent contractors working 20+ hours per week, who further the work of the agency or brokerage firm, whether located/residing in the agency’s state of domicile or any other state, and whether involved with insurance, employee benefits, other financial services, or the administrative/operational functions of the agency.

Those working less than 20 hours per week should also be listed on the membership application, as they are also eligible for membership benefits, but will not be included in your employee count for dues calculation purposes.

4. Deductibility of Dues

A portion of IA&B membership dues are deductible as ordinary business expenses under the Internal Revenue Code; however, dues may not be considered as charitable contributions.

We are required to notify you in advance of the estimated amount of dues that is non-deductible for the year.

  • IA&B of PA estimates that 36.71% of your membership dues payment is used to lobby on your behalf and is non-deductible.
  • IA&B of DE estimates that 59.76% of your membership dues payment is used to lobby on your behalf and is non-deductible.
  • IA&B of MD estimates that 85.85% of your membership dues payment is used to lobby on your behalf and is non-deductible.

Under the current law, members of certain non-profit organizations, such as IA&B, may not deduct that portion of their dues payment used to lobby on their behalf, including keeping you informed of vital issues, which may impact you and your agency business.
