Protect yourself and your agency from E&O claims by understanding how and why agents are sued. Find out what you can do to minimize exposures as you implement loss-control protocols within your agency. We offer seminars (in classroom and online formats) that explore E&O from different angles to help you meet customer expectations and prevent claims. Many are approved for Utica (Pa., Md. & Del.) and Westport (Pa. & Del.) loss-control credit.

Who should attend an E&O seminar?

You can benefit from attending an E&O seminar at just about any point in your insurance career. The best defense against an E&O claim is knowledge. These seminars concentrate on your duties and responsibilities as an agent and what is required of you to avoid a claim.

E&O Risk Management: Meeting the Challenge of Change

The ever-changing world of insurance includes new and evolving E&O exposures as well as emerging new ways to protect your agency. There are E&O exposures that exist today that were unimaginable 15 years ago, including those created by social media and data breaches. Following this six-hour seminar, you will walk away with greater knowledge of the following:

  • The duties owed to clients
  • Using claims statistics to focus risk management efforts
  • Why customer file documentation is so important
  • Procedural steps that can reduce E&O exposures
  • What constitutes private personal information
  • Direct and indirect costs of data breaches

This seminar is approved for loss-control credit for Utica policyholders in Del., Md. and Pa. and for Westport policyholders in Del. and Pa. (Attendees taking the on-demand program must pass the exam associated with the course to earn loss-control credit.)

Mistakes That Lead to E&O Claims

There are numerous steps in securing insurance for clients, and each transaction carries the potential for error.  We will highlight common mistakes involved in E&O claims by describing the milestones in the "life " of an account.  You will also learn the importance of documentation and standard practices throughout the entire transaction.  This seminar is for producers and CSRs, both of whom play a vital role in preventing E&O claims.

  • Exceeding the authority granted by the insurer
  • Failure to inspect
  • Underinsurance
  • Lack of knowledge of the policy coverages and exclusions
  • Issuance of binders and certificates of insurance

This seminar is approved for loss-control credit for Utica policyholders in Del., Md. and Pa. but is not approved for Westport policyholders.

Ethical Behavior and E&O On-Demand Program

Jerry Milton, CIC, shows you how to stay out of hot water when it comes to errors and omissions in this online program. Jerry says, "E&O claims all come from the L-Syndrome; lack of knowledge, lack of consistency, lack of communication or lack of documentation." With a full video presentation and supporting materials, you will learn how to strengthen these "lacking" areas as Jerry discusses the following:

  • Usual allegations
  • Agent authority
  • Agent's duties
  • Failure to provide standard of care
  • Breach of contract
  • Binders
  • Certificates of insurance
  • Claims scenarios

This seminar is approved for loss-control credit for Utica policyholders in Del., Md. and Pa.  (Attendees taking the on-demand program must pass the exam associated with the course to earn loss-control credit.)
