Commissioner Warns of Fraudulent Phone Calls
An insurance-related telephone scam may be underway. Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Jessica Altman late last week warned about suspicious calls in which the caller claims to be an Insurance Department employee.
The Insurance Department press release shared that two complaints recently came from Pittsburgh-area residents. In both cases, the caller inquired about the consumers’ Medicare supplemental coverage.
Altman offered: “The Insurance Department never makes unsolicited calls to consumers and [does] not ‘sell’ insurance.”
If your customer receives a suspicious call from someone who claims to work for the Insurance Department, advise him or her to call the Insurance Department’s consumer hotline (877-881-6388), the Pennsylvania Attorney General (800-441-2555), and local law enforcement.
