Enhanced UIM Coverage for New Auto Policies Effective July 1
The Maryland General Assembly last year passed House Bill 5/Senate Bill 403. The legislation creates an “enhanced” underinsured motorist (EUIM) coverage option under which UIM coverage for an injured party is added together or stacked with the available bodily injury insurance of the at-fault driver, instead of offset against it.
The new law, which took effect Oct. 1, 2017, impacts new business policies issued on and after July 1, 2018 and requires a new coverage form developed by the Maryland Insurance Administration.
