Delays for some prospective licensees

Some prospective Pennsylvania insurance licensees may experience delays with their FBI criminal background checks. The issue stems from a recent change in fingerprinting vendors.

As previously reported in Agent Headlines, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department implemented a revised fingerprinting process – to include a new fingerprinting vendor – on Nov. 28, 2017.

We reached out to our contacts at the Insurance Department who assured us that they’re aware of the delays. They shared:

  • While certain individuals may be experiencing issues, they’re not aware of any systemic backlog affecting all prospective licensees, as they continue to receive fingerprint and background check results on a regular basis.
  • The new system and vendor – not the FBI – are the cause of the issues.
  • The same delays are affecting other state agencies using the new fingerprinting vendor and continue to be worked out.

If you have questions or concerns about the changes, please contact the Insurance Department.
