Over 100 independent insurance agency employees and insurance company representatives mixed, mingled, learned from industry experts, and recognized outstanding peers and local youth at the Delaware Association of Insurance Agents & Brokers (IA&B) 60th annual convention, held May 31-June 1 in Rehoboth Beach, Del.

Industry awards
Industry award recipients included Steve Burnett, ARM, CIC, of Insurance & Financial Services in Wilmington, Del., and Craig Rider, of Lititz Mutual Insurance Company in Fleetwood, Pa.

A director and former officer of IA&B, Burnett received the Wharton-Ranalli Leadership Award in recognition of his dedication and service to the independent agent community. IA&B recognized Rider with the William H. Lehnert Jr. Award for his efforts to forge strong agency-company relationships.

Student scholarship
The Delaware agents’ association continued its tradition of awarding a $1,500 Joann Scott Memorial Scholarship. This year’s recipient was Jake Willey, a 2017 graduate of Dover High School and incoming freshman at the University of Delaware.

Make-A-Wish support
For the second year in a row, IA&B contributed to Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic’s Adopt-A-Wish program. Wish-recipient Sammy, of Fenton, Del., spoke to convention attendees about the impact his wish had on his life.

The two-day convention also included four CE-approved seminars, networking at Kings Creek Country Club, and a Relay for Life fundraiser.
